Treatment For Depression in Washington

Compassionate, Evidence-Based Care for Your Mental Health

How Depression is Treated at Constellations Mental Health Services

Step 1: Comprehensive Evaluation

Your treatment begins with a one-on-one consultation with Alexandra Pales, ARNP, PMHNP-BC. This includes:

  1. A clinical interview to understand your history and symptoms
  2. Screening tools to assess the severity of depression
  3. A discussion of treatment goals and preferences

Step 2: Personalized Treatment Plan

We believe in collaborative care—you will be actively involved in your treatment decisions. Your plan may include:

  • Therapeutic Interventions – Supportive discussions and guidance based on family systems, attachment, trauma processing, and tool development.
  • Lifestyle & Nutritional Support – Recommendations for exercise, sleep regulation, and dietary changes proven to support mental health.
  • Medication (if needed) – If symptoms are severe or persistent, medication may be considered. We carefully tailor prescriptions to avoid unwanted side effects and improve overall well-being.
  • Supplementary Support – For those who prefer holistic approaches, we may recommend omega-3s, probiotics, or other supplements that have shown benefits for mood stabilization.

Step 3: Ongoing Support & Adjustments

  • Follow-ups are scheduled every 2-4 weeks to monitor progress.
  • Once stability is achieved, appointments are spaced every 8-12 weeks for continued support.
  • Medication adjustments or therapy recommendations can be made as needed.

How long does treatment take?

Depression treatment is highly individualized. Some people begin to feel better within weeks, while others may need longer-term support. Research suggests that many patients see significant improvements within 6-12 weeks of starting treatment with therapy and/or medication.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I’m unsure about medication?

We explore all treatment options together. Medication is never required, and we provide education on alternatives for those who prefer non-medication interventions.

What if I’m already on medication but it’s not working?

We assess the effectiveness of your current treatment and discuss:

  • Adjusting the dosage
  • Switching medications
  • Genetic testing to determine which medications may work best
  • Non-medication options

Are there side effects with medication?

Each person responds differently, but we work together to minimize unwanted effects. If weight gain, emotional blunting, or other side effects are a concern, we offer alternative options.

Is it hard to stop taking antidepressants?

Some medications can be more challenging to discontinue, but we provide expert guidance in tapering to make the process safe and manageable.

What if I’m in crisis or having suicidal thoughts?

We do not provide emergency crisis care. If you are in crisis, please call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or visit your nearest emergency room.

Where do appointments take place?

All appointments are virtual via a secure online platform. You will need a private space, a computer, tablet, or phone, and working audio/video for the session.

Do you offer therapy?

While we do not offer traditional weekly therapy, follow-ups include brief therapy, discussing work/life stressors, relationships, and goals. If long-term therapy is recommended, we can help you find a qualified therapist.
